Hello, and thanks for watching my video. Well first of all I never had a chance to travel across this historic route. I’m not even from the USA, but I can imagine how beautiful it was in the early 60s. I made this video for the people who never heard about the Route 66. As far as I know (and please correct me if I’m wrong) Route 66 is not indicated on maps nowadays, any traveller needs a decent description and a detailed map before hitting the road. On June 29, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act which initiated the construction of 41,000 miles of interstate highways across America. As a result, many small towns that had once thrived along the famed east-west Route 66 were bypassed by the new high-speed interstate highway system. Faced with financial ruin, these small towns struggled to survive. This true story is recalled in the 2006 Walt Disney Pictures film, Cars. I personally like the way Cars presented this – a bit of American history in an all-around fun film. Not to mention the fact that I’m a guy and hey, guys and cars…you get the picture.
